Biography
Composer of contemporary classical music and music adapted to visual media, violinist, and music educator based in New York City, Aron Frank was most recently an Artist-in-Residence at the Cité internationale des arts in Paris. After beginning violin studies at the age of seven, he soon began composing music and studying counterpoint with Judd Danby. Aron is a graduate of the Indiana University – Jacobs School of Music, where he received the Bachelor and Master of Music (MM) degrees, studying composition with Claude Baker, Aaron Travers, Don Freund, Sven-David Sandström and P.Q. Phan, Federico Agostini (violin), and Larry Groupé (scoring).
Recent collaborations as a composer and violinist include with the Paris-based collectives Ensemble Calliopée and Ensemble Variances. His film music has recently been featured at the Montclair Film Festival in New Jersey (Jury Award) and at Film Independent’s Project Involve in Los Angeles. Aron’s music for the concert stage draws on a wide range of artistic influences, including modernist art and literature. His works have been performed in the United States, Latin America, and Europe, by soloists/ensembles at the Boston University Tanglewood Institute, Bowdoin International Music Festival, Indiana University, Cleveland Institute of Music, Music Educators National Conference, as well as the Wabash Valley Youth Symphony, Americas Chamber Orchestra, and Mariah Wind Quintet.
As a recipient of the Harriet Hale Woolley Scholarship, Aron served as an Artist-in-Residence at the Fondation des États-Unis in Paris for the 2021-22 academic year. During this time, he studied composition at the École Normale de Musique de Paris with Régis Campo, and at the Écoles d’art américaines de Fontainebleau, where he was awarded a prize in composition by the Maurice Ravel Foundation. Aron then studied privately with composer Marie-Jeanne Séréro (Conservatoire International de Paris), while pursuing an artistic research project at IRCAM.
